Reflections on the Alice Springs Desert Park Artist Residency
“In 2015 I was invited by Scott Pullyblank, the senior curator of the Alice Springs Desert Park to undertake an Artist Residency project at the park. The residency went for 3 months and afforded me with time to document the knowledge of many of the parks guides. The project provided a foundation to build on during the development of the Alice Springs Genestreaming AR Sculpture in 2023 and I am very grateful to Scott and the team at Alice Springs Desert Park for the opportunity to undertake the residency project. Plate Tectonics
Images of plate tectonics at the top of the artwork were sourced from the film “Continental Drift: 3.3 Billion Years”. Embed link below. In the artwork I have arranged a sequence of paleo maps along the 15 panels at the top of the image. They run in chronological order from 3 billion years ago to less then 100 million years.

The Geology of the Region, the Formation of Australia & The Super Continent Cycle
The MacDonnell Ranges, or Tjoritja in Arrernte, is a mountain range located in southern Northern Territory. MacDonnell Ranges is also the name given to an interim Australian bioregion broadly encompassing the mountain range, with an area of 3,929,444 hectares (9,709,870 acres). The range is a 644 km (400 mi) long series of mountains in central Australia, consisting of parallel ridges running to the east and west of Alice Springs. The mountain range contains many spectacular gaps and gorges as well as areas of Aboriginal significance. The films below created with tour guide Ben Price inspired this artwork.
