Concept for sign design within budget

Our budget for signage was for a sculpture petal printed on both sides for each of the 9 locations as a sign. As the petals are approximately 3 meters in height Mali has proposed that we cut them in half to create two double sided signs at each sculpture site and place them at a slight angle to each other.

Content Placement for the Signs

2 petals = Sides A – Info on stakeholders – Gondwana Link, Shire, Land of, local environment. – Aunty Carol, Art of Nature, Sponsors

2 petals = Sides B – info on – Sculpture & Tree of Life

Note; 150cm in height is quite long making the bottom of the sign quite low to the ground, too low for reading or QRs. We suggest the bottom 30cm may be given to art imagery.

Please note these are initial layout designs. Colour palette background colour may change to reflect environment, pattern placement will be reviewed once the text is further condensed.

Please scan the QR code to experience the Genestreaming Tree of Life.

For at least 3,700 million years, life, from one generation to the next has been flowing through time. Genestreaming presents this intergenerational connection through the ‘DNA Attachment’ motif making visible how all life is one.

Carl Linnaeus, a 17th-century biologist, formalised the system of naming organisms, demonstrating that all species have an ‘address’ within the Tree of Life. The Genestreaming model extends this idea by inviting you to place yourself within the Tree of Life.

As custodians of nature, we can all contribute to conserving its interconnected web of life. By presenting extinct and threatened species together, the Genestreaming Tree of Life empowers you with a deeper understanding to support meaningful impact in protecting natural systems.

Gondwana Link – Our vision: Reconnected country across south-western Australia, from the wet forests in the southwest corner to the dry woodlands and mallee bordering the Nullarbor Plain, in which ecosystem function and biodiversity are restored and maintained.

History of the Project – The purpose of Gondwana Link attracted the interest of artist Ben Beeton who, through his website www.sciart.com.au shared stories of the ecology, geology and deep time history of natural systems and conservation efforts to protect them.
During this time Ben met Noongar elder Aunty Carol Petterson who shared with him Dr Noal Nannups map of the Dreaming trails of the South West and Aunty Carol expressed her concern that this knowledge was being forgotten.
Together they came up with the concept of a public artwork that would promote local conservation, culture and science and become the foundation for a national tourism trail.
Ben designed the Genestreaming Journey Sculpture in a modified giant evolutionary tree which recounted the shared ancestry of local species. Field naturalist work from the Art of Nature School is exhibited on the inside and local Aboriginal art is exhibited on the outside.
