This project displays nature journaling about ecotourism locations in augmented reality to share the experiences with a global community.

Ben Beeton as an artist has completed over 40 artist residency projects across Australia and abroad including being the artist for the Burke and Wills Environmental Expedition. He designed and is a founder of the Genestreaming Sculptures National Art Trail. In 2024 a Genestreaming sculpture was displayed at Singapore Gardens by the Bay and the accompanying plaque was opened by the Australian Governor General. Ben is now interested in developing a new program to display nature journaling about Ecotourism experiences in Augmented Reality.

How it works
- The artist undertakes a short term artist residency project up to 4 days at the ecotourism location.
- During this time the artist develops field notes including photographs, drawings and research about the region. The artists focus is on the ecology, geology and deep time origins of the landscape.
- The artists journal work is placed on one of the 15 panels of the Augmented Reality sculpture with the name of the tourism location clearly visible.
- The accompanying webpage features information on the Ecotourism location and a website link.
- The Augmented Reality sculpture will be available online for one year. After this one year the project can be maintained through subscription to the Art of Nature School’s, ‘Explore Nature Journaling Resource Kit‘. This resource kit provides over 20 online video lessons & guidance films on different ways to be creatively inspired by natural environments.

In this project we involved field naturalist artworks from a primary school. We see this as a great way to increase kids awareness of caring for natural environments through art and new technology.
