Genestreaming Augmented Reality Sculpture for Australian Schools

::

National Genestreaming Sculptures Trail

We are creating a nationwide public art tourism trail of physical Genestreaming Sculptures across Australia, forming a connected network.

Launched in Western Australia in 2021, the initiative blends public art with immersive augmented reality, bringing together communities, First Nations artists, nature journaling artists, schools, Elders, scientists, and visitors through shared cultural and environmental experiences, while promoting eco-tourism, First Nations culture, scientific environmental education, and deep-time awareness.

Schools Program

A National Augmented Reality Nature Journaling Experience of Students Observations and Creativity

Having established the first physical Genestreaming Sculpture trail, now…. we are building something ambitious:

We are creating Australia’s Augmented Reality Genestreaming Sculpture for Schools. The project will showcase a rich tapestry of student nature journaling artwork—capturing how children see, feel, learn and connect with the natural world around them.

This is a National Project for Australian Schools where nature journaling posters from contributing schools become part of an Interactive Augmented Reality Genestreaming Sculpture. A National Educational & Environmental Initiative shaped by young people’s nature journaling across the country.

Participating schools become part of a national knowledge network, showcasing Australia’s biodiversity, heritage, and innovation.

We have introduced Genestreaming Sculpture projects in schools at Capel & Ravensthorpe in WA with great success.

While piloting this program, students were captivated by the connection between the Augmented Reality sculpture and their nature journaling art about their place – sparking excitement, confidence, and a deeper connection to the world around them.

Limited Places Available – How to Secure your Schools place in our Program

Participating schools will play an important role in representing their region in this national creative and environmental initiative. While we aim to include a diverse cross-section of schools from across Australia, priority will be given to those schools who express their interest early and pledge their participation.

This program offers whole-school access through a subscription of only $10 per week per school. Each school contributes an annual nature journaling poster, which becomes part of the Augmented Reality sculpture.

The Augmented Reality sculpture has a capacity of featuring a maximum of 855 school’s nature journaling projects in total. As there are well over 9,000 schools in Australia, early participation is recommended.

To reserve your school’s place, please download your reservation form located below, fill it out and email it as an attachment to the email address provided on the form. Submitting your school’s reservation form ensures your place is held while the program is being finalized – there is no obligation at this stage. Our team will contact with you when the program is ready to launch.

Connecting to the National Genestreaming Sculpture Tourism Trail

As part of the wider National Genestreaming Sculpture Tourism Trail, the Augmented Reality sculpture will connect to physical public sculptures across Australia – linking local stories to a national journey of discovery, creativity, and environmental awareness.

Our Program invites students across Australia to contribute their nature journaling artwork to a living, interactive story told through an Augmented Reality Genestreaming Sculpture and the accompanying website.

At its heart, its all about connection: encouraging students to slow down, observe deeply, and express their understanding of nature through art. This inclusive project aims to foster a powerful sense of pride, belonging, and curiosity – bridging creativity and science in a way that feels personal and meaningful. Designed with flexibility in mind, the program is easy to integrate into existing school activities. Schools can participate through classroom learning, art programs, environmental studies, or extracurricular initiatives.

Using visual literacy to engage with scientific concepts

The sculpture represents different groups of animals and plants found in Australia. In connecting to the evolutionary tree baseplate, the Genestreaming Augmented Reality Sculpture features 15 petals. Each petal connects to a line in the evolutionary tree which represents a group of related species. The scientific and common names of each group of species represented will be written at the base of each petal. Each ring represents a different period of geological time with animated paleo creatures inhabiting the era they lived in millions of years ago…. including Dinosaurs!
