State & National Gallery Genestreaming Sculptures Proposal

Our vision is to develop a range of Genestreaming Sculptures for each of the state galleries and the national gallery in Australia that will act as part of an interconnected Australia wide national tourism trail.

This trail will contribute to our objective of developing a National Tourism Trail of Genestreaming Sculptures which focuses on bringing science and culture together through art to promote conservation awareness. To achieve this goal we are looking to work with a variety of organisations to establish approximately 10 Genestreaming Sculptures in each state and territory. In 2021 we opened the first Genestreaming Sculpture near the Porongurup Ranges in Western Australian. In 2022 we opened the first Genestreaming Sculpture in Queensland in the Bunya Mountains. In October of 2024 we will be launching the first Genestreaming Sculpture tourism trail which comprises 9 locations across south Western Australia. A mixture of physical and augmented reality sculptures make up the trail.

Implementation of a Genestreaming Sculpture is a 3 Stage Process

Stage 1 – Art of Nature Journaling Sculpture in Augmented Reality

This initial research project is managed by the Art of Nature team who undertake a fortnight of voluntary research and consultancy work with the team and staff members of your institution. This research will be used as foundation material for Stage 2 of the project. To support this work, the Art of Nature team will aim to seek regional sponsors.

Stage 2 – Genestreaming Sculpture in Augmented Reality

The Art of Nature team will use the research from Stage 1 as material to further develop and create an Augmented Reality Genestreaming Sculpture. As seen at other locations where we have undertaken the project, our field naturalist art featuring selected endemic and threatened species is displayed on the internal petals of the sculpture. Artworks of local indigenous artists are featured on the external petals of the sculpture. The base plate is a large phylogenetic tree of 15 selected local species plus the human species. At this stage there is an option to extend the project to an Artist in Residence program. As seen below, for promotional purposes we provide a digital file of all of the artwork featured in the sculpture as one mural image. Stage 3 – Genestreaming Sculpture Physical

The Art of Nature team uses all material from from Stage 2 as the foundations to construct a Physical Genestreaming Sculpture to be installed at your chosen location.
